A friend called me last week and asked me to come show him his new style of transportation. He walked into my house wearing a Rugrats fanny pack with white New Balance shoes Now my friend Sean is a dad living in the suburbs and the proud owner of a sweet Toyota minivan I couldn't help but smile at the sight in front of me, but to my surprise, he pulled out a Glock 19 and said it fit perfectly. At the time, I felt confused, angry, and disgusted all at once, but let's get to the horrible truth about fanny packs.

This article is painful to write because let's be honest, fan packs were terrible when they were popular back in the day and they are even worse now. They basically tell everyone that you have given up on life and that life has more pocket options than respect It shows a sense of weakness and sends the message that you have given up on life completely By now, it should be pretty clear that I hate everything about fan packs However, when it comes to carrying a concealed handgun, everything about looking weak and ridiculous can actually be an advantage when blending in.

It makes you look innocent and people let their guard down When I first saw my friend carrying it in a fanny pack, I laughed at him and immediately dismissed him because I didn't expect him to pull a gun out of such a ridiculous fanny pack. Having something like a fanny pack gives some people the ability to carry an appendix without a gun stabbing you in the stomach every time you sit down. This works especially well for big kids who can't always carry an appendix because they have a small bowel
Having something like a fan pack in the summer seems obviously ridiculous, but it starts to make a lot of sense the more you use it. Oftentimes, it can be difficult to wear in the summer because there aren't many clothes to hide, so people have issues like prints when wearing it under a thin t-shirt. A holster will not only allow you to comfortably carry a large gun, but it will also eliminate prints when it becomes difficult to carry during the hot summer months.
I started jokingly posting that I was carrying my Gen5 Glock 19 in a fan pack on the TFB group chat. I was surprised to see that our shorts aficionado, James Reeves, also carries a snooze-nosed revolver in a backpack. It's easy to carry around and doesn't add any unsightly bulk if you're walking around all day, she says.
Now I know there are people who say that carrying a backpack is technically a form of off-body carry and I would say yes, but not really. In its most basic definition, a holster would be considered off-body carry, but it's not the same as other off-body carry methods like a purse or backpack because it's too close to your work area for a gun.

Most body options are difficult to justify because they are usually easy to steal from someone when they are not paying attention With a fan pack, it's very difficult to sneak, as you either wrap your arms around the person or release them from behind. It is still possible, but more difficult to steal than the other options I've been trying to carry a pistol in my Space Pizza backpack for the past week and I honestly like how close it feels to the body. Honestly, I will completely understand that they think the fan pack is the weight of the bag accessories. I hate the concept and existence of them but they are very useful
So after wearing my Space Pizza fan pack for a week, I can honestly say that I hate them with every fiber of my being, but they can be useful for concealed carry. The ability to carry a small handgun inside a body pack can make POI a very convenient option for summertime POI carry. I was really surprised how comfortable it is to have a fan pack on your waist if you plan on going out with the family all day.
Although it offers many advantages and can be very useful, I think I would personally stick with a PDI case Despite preferring to carry in an IWB holster, I think carrying a fan pack is a useful option for people. It really just depends on your daily activities and what works best for your lifestyle.
